Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) decried President Donald Trump‘s tariffs on various products imported into the United States as being “disastrous” for his state.
Trump’s tariffs startled markets last week, with Democrats going on the offense against the efforts arguing they will harm consumers. Moore said on CBS News’s Face the Nation Sunday that he is seeing negative effects from the tariffs affecting Maryland.
Maryland is “already seeing the impacts” of the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) says, telling @margbrennan the tariffs will especially have a “significant” impact on the Port of Baltimore.

“We’re already seeing the impacts of these disastrous and, frankly, not very well thought-out policies when it comes to tariffs. You know, tariffs are a tool. They’re not an ideology. But this administration is using it like an ideology,” Moore said.
“We’re already seeing how this is going to have a significant impact on the Port of Baltimore. It is also seeing how the tariff policies are having disastrous impacts on our farmers over in the Eastern Shore and our chicken farmers in the Eastern Shore,” Moore added.
Moore also said that the Trump administration‘s “erratic behavior” and “indecisive decision-making” are harming costs and having a negative effect on businesses.

“It’s having a very real impact on our economic engines and American competitiveness, as well as our national security, and so these are the type of things — this erratic behavior — is the things that people were concerned about, and we are now seeing in real-time in our states,” Moore said.
Despite the negative polling and attacks by Democrats on the Trump administration’s approach to the economy with tariffs, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told NBC News’s Meet the Press he is “confident that the American people will come our way.”
