MSNBC Host Bursts With Pride In Watching His Wife Own Josh Hawley At Hearing

Chris Hayes applauded his wife’s vigorous pushback at Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) on his MSNBC show Wednesday. (Watch the video below.)

Kate Shaw, a law professor and writer, appeared before a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing where she was peppered with questions about the many injunctions issued against President Donald Trump and his administration. Hawley insisted that bias was to blame but Shaw eviscerated his claim.

First, though, Hayes gave Shaw quite the intro.

“There’s a fun moment in the United States Senate yesterday I’d love to share with you, mostly because it features the amazing constitutional law professor/podcast host/New York Times contributor Kate Shaw, who’s also my wife,” Hayes said. “And it also features Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, who is amazing in his own way, I guess.”

Hayes noted that the senator has been defending “the lawlessness of Boss Trump.” In this instance, Hawley tried to make his case with a bar graph showing Trump well ahead of recent presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Joe Biden in injunctions issued against him.

As Trump attempts to test the boundaries of presidential power and the rule of law, judges have opposed him on deportations, federal funding and workforce cuts, and tariffs.

“Hawley had printed out a big ‘gotcha’ chart, which he seemed to think proved that Donald Trump is a victim of a vast network of biased judges from across the ideological spectrum,” the “All In” host continued. “Professor Shaw suggested there might be a more simple explanation.”

Hayes went to the highlights.

In the clip from the Senate floor, Hawley showed off his chart, asking Shaw: “You don’t think this is a little bit anomalous?”

She answered with a dagger: “A very plausible explanation, senator, you have to consider is that he is engaged in much more lawless activity than other presidents, right?”

Hayes deemed it worth repeating and also quoted his wife elsewhere in the exchange.

Now that’s couple goals.
