Senate Republicans are racing to pass President Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” by July 4, but Elon Musk threw a wrench into those plans when he called the bill a “disgusting abomination.”
Trump and Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) are trying to keep the legislation on track. Trump is holding meetings and calls with key Senate Republicans, while Thune is overseeing the negotiation of changes to win over all sides of his conference.
In the House, Republicans and Democrats are holding their respective weekly party meetings this morning. The GOP meeting is likely to include talks of the highly anticipated request the White House sent Tuesday to Congress to claw back $9.4 billion in funding, as well as Musk’s vow to “fire all politicians who betrayed the American people.”
A number of administration officials are also set to appear in hearings on the hill, including Education Secretary Linda McMahon, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, White House budget director Russell Vought and acting FAA Administrator Chris Rocheleau.
Elsewhere, Trump is slated to sign another series of executive orders at 2 p.m. EDT.
