Democratic group focused on downballot races hauls in $600K in first quarter

A Democratic group focused on downballot races said Thursday that it hauled more than $600,000 in the first quarter of 2025.

In a Thursday press release, the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS) said the first quarter gains, beyond double the group’s first quarter funds raised in 2023, shows “substantial growth in grassroots support and donor engagement.”

“Americans see Donald Trump and the GOP’s assault on democracy for what it is – and they’re ready to stop it,” Andrew Godinich, DASS’s executive director, said in the release.

“From big wins in Wisconsin to surging donor enthusiasm in 2025, the message is clear: democracy wins,” Godinich added. “With historic support from voters nationwide, DASS is ready to break records this cycle.”

On Tuesday, liberal candidate Susan Crawford secured victory over conservative candidate Brad Schimel in a Wisconsin Supreme Court race. Crawford’s win marked a notable success for Democrats, who backed her in the race, and a setback for President Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk, who supported Schimel.

Wisconsin, commonly considered a battleground state, went for Trump in 2024 and former President Biden in 2020.

Musk minimized the Wisconsin results in an early Wednesday post on the social platform X, saying that he had “expected to lose.” The tech billionaire had previously said the race could determine “the future of America and Western Civilization.”

DASS said Thursday that it, alongside other groups it is linked with, is on the way to topping a 2022 midterm cycle record of $32 million in fundraising with the new $600,000 first-quarter gains.
