Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) hit back at Fox News’ Will Cain on Wednesday after the host bashed House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) for questioning President Donald Trump’s mental acuity.
“Well, look, Will, I don’t know whether it’s incompetence, cognitive abilities, ignorance or just plain flat-out lying but Donald Trump doesn’t know that a photo he’s showing is photoshopped,” said Goldman in a nod to Trump’s apparent suggestion about an edited photo of Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s tattoos.
“He doesn’t know that the Supreme Court ruled nine to nothing against him. He’s got Elon Musk in the Oval Office doing press conferences. He doesn’t understand what trade deficits are and is tanking our economy. So you can call it whatever you want but it’s been a pretty disastrous first hundred days.”
Goldman laid into Cain after the host referred to Jeffries’ recent appearance on the MeidasTouch Network, one where the Democratic leader pointed to Trump’s history of questioning former President Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities.
“And so I think it’s fair that a lot of Americans across the country that I run into are questioning whether Donald Trump is actually fit, at this point, to be able to carry out the duties of the United States of America in terms of being the president and the commander-in-chief,” Jeffries said.
Cain, after introducing Goldman moments later, said he wished to have a “substantive debate” with the congressman but wanted to see if he agreed with the “absurdity” of Jeffries’ statement.
“It is absurd after years of refusing to acknowledge the truth when it comes to Joe Biden and seemingly manufacturing a truth when it comes to Donald Trump,” Cain declared.
Trump — who challenged Biden’s mental acuity on the campaign trail before he dropped his reelection bid last year — notably faced questions about his own cognitive ability, as well.
The president — in the months leading to his election win — rambled to the press, served up a word salad when asked about child care and went on bonkers rants about electric boats and sharks.
Goldman, after Cain continued to criticize Jeffries’ remarks, stressed that he doesn’t think Trump is “competent” and it wasn’t clear whether his cognitive abilities were “sufficient to get past” the 25th Amendment.
