Paul Atkins, President Trump’s pick to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will be sworn in Tuesday at a White House ceremony.
Atkins, a former Wall Street consultant, will take over the independent regulatory agency at a time when Democrats have pressed the SEC to investigate Trump’s influence on the markets — especially in light of his latest sweeping tariff announcement, negotiations with foreign trading partners and his tussle with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.
Atkins was grilled during confirmation hearings over his prior work at the agency in the lead-up to the 2008 financial crisis and his plans for the SEC’s future.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. EDT.
