Trump too 'busy' with foreign affairs to think about Elon Musk

President Donald Trump told reporters Friday on Air Force One that he has been so busy working on foreign policy that he has not had time to think about Elon Musk after his feud with the billionaire.

Trump fought with Musk over social media Thursday, exchanging threats ranging from cancelling government contracts to starting a new centrist political party. Musk even accused the president of being in the Jeffrey Epstein files, citing that as the reason for their delayed release.

“I’ve been so busy working on China, Russia, Iran … I’m not thinking about Elon,” Trump said. “I just wish him well.”

When asked about a New York Times report surrounding Musk’s alleged drug abuse, Trump opted not to attack his adviser-turned-adversary and instead said the report sounded “unfair.”

Musk disagreed with the government spending in Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” which the Tesla CEO believes will add to the national debt.

A call had been reportedly scheduled between Trump and Musk for Friday, but Trump said Friday morning that he was not interested in a call. He said Musk had gone “crazy” after the Epstein comments and after Musk claimed that Trump’s tariffs would cause a recession. The billionaire also decommissioned the Dragon spacecraft before reversing his move later.

“No, I won’t be speaking to him for a while, I guess, but I wish him well,” Trump told CNN, the outlet reported Friday morning.

“I’m not even thinking about Elon,” Trump said. “He’s got a problem. The poor guy’s got a problem.”

Musk signaled a willingness to reconcile with Trump on Thursday evening, saying, “You’re not wrong,” in response to a post by Bill Ackman, who said the pair should make peace “for the benefit of our great country.”

But Musk suggested on Friday afternoon that Trump’s attacks on him were unwarranted because he was initially criticizing Congress.

“Elon criticized Congress, not Trump. Trump then attacked Elon personally,” an X user wrote, with Musk responding, “Exactly.”
